SF-24V Prototype
In
January 2005, it dawned on me that David's personal gold SF-24 (originally
called the SF-12A) had been hanging by a mic cable in the old Royer shop
for a number of months. I asked David if he was recording the shop and
he said no; he had tubified the mic and was testing it over a period of
time. This was the world's first and only tube stereo ribbon mic and I
immediately gave it a listen - it sounded incredible. I called LA scoring
engineer Alan Meyerson that night and asked if he would try it out. Six
weeks later it went up on a session at Warner Brothers (see photos - we
were all excited), then he took it back to Media Ventures (now Remote Control
Productions) where it became the sole mic used for all of the Desperate
Housewives cues for the rest of the season. I had to pry that mic out of
Alan's fingers!
When we released the SF-24V, it was a given that we'd ask Alan to do the
first ads. He graciously accepted.
