"I've
never heard anything better in a ribbon microphone than Royer’s
new R-122, ever! Something happened when they put that amp
and larger transformer in there and this is my new favorite
ribbon microphone. I always use ribbon mics for their warmth
and sweet high frequency response characteristics, but there
is something truly unique about the powered R-122's sound
quality. My pal Omar Hakim was bouncing off the walls when
he heard the first playback with R-122’s on overheads
on his drum set - they just sound absolutely fantastic! Royer
really nailed it with the R-122."

Mix
- September 2004 issue, article by Kevin Becca
“…I can’t say enough good things about the
SF-24. As with all mics, the SF-24 is not the magic transducer
for all scenarios, but the Royer sounded so good in so many
situations and was so easy to use, I would have to say that
it was one of the most versatile mics I’ve ever used.
The SF-24 came through with flying colors on almost every situation
thrown in its direction—a rarity, indeed. For any seeker
of scintillating sound, the SF-24 is a true find.”

Stevens – R-121’s
- Drums
"I've had a pair of 121's for about a year now, and
I love 'em. My studio isn't big enough to give me a really
good natural reverb (for drums). So, I started leaving
the door to the garage open (studio and garage are adjacent),
and running a pair of 121's in a blumlein array at the opposite
end, with a couple of distressors on 'em. I then delay
the ambient track in Pro Tools about 90-100 ms, and raise to
taste. WOW! Big drum sound from a small space.” |
