Bensusan is one of the great fingerstyle guitar players of our time.
Our friend Jamie Rosenberg, studio owner and Pierre's engineer,
wanted to try our SF-24 phantom powered ribbon mic on Pierre, so
we sent him a production prototype SF-24 a few months before they
started shipping. Jamie sent us some photos and an MP3 after the
session.
The
guitar Pierre used was a prototype Kevin Ryan - Pierre Bensusan
Model. Here are some of Jamie's thoughts after the recording:
"We
had just finished up the "International Guitar Night"
and I literally had 15 minutes to take some video (from which I
got these stills) and record half a tune with the SF24 and some
new Josephson E22's that I just bought. I didn't have time to move
the mics around and experiment, but this recording is the SF24 (no
Josephsons) through a Great River MP2NV with the impedance switch
"in." I didn't have time to check out the mic with any
other preamps. I've got a 2.5 db shelf at 6.3k on the SF24.
The
vocal is a Brauner VM1 KHE set on "figure 8" through
a Requisite Audio Pal Plus. Pierre sang and played this live.
The whole thing was recorded to Pro Tools HD at 24/96 and then
squeezed into an MP3 for your enjoyment.
I
think if I had more time I would pull the mic farther away as there's
quite a bit of proximity effect when close to the guitar (this recording
was about a foot away).
We love the mic and I want one as soon as you can send me one!"
Thanks Jamie! Browse the pictures and be sure to check out the beautiful
playing on this brief MP3. |
