Recall Sessions: Pentavirate — Anthony Da Costa on Piano
One live take, two ribbon pairs, Pentavirate Studios
Recorded by Bobby Holland at Pentavirate Studios, Nashville, TN. Anthony Da Costa, piano.
Both ribbon pairs straight into an Undertone Audio MPDI-4 preamp, through Lynx converters and an API The Box 2 console. No EQ on either track.
Anthony Da Costa at the piano during the Pentavirate Sessions in Nashville, captured two ways at once: a pair of SF-2s and a single SF-24V stereo ribbon, both straight into an Undertone Audio MPDI-4 preamp with no EQ. Same performance, same room, same preamp; the only thing that changes between the two takes is the microphone.
The SF-2 pair is the drier, more focused picture of the instrument. The SF-24V, with its tube electronics, opens the room up around it and adds a little weight to the low end. Switch between them mid-phrase and the playback position holds, so you hear the difference on exactly the same notes.
This is the piano track from the full-band take you can mix yourself on the Pentavirate Session mixer.
